I'm a fan of General's Ridge, but the Washington Post called it "Sadistic". Its not overly long, but if you miss the fairway its about a lost ball. And the greens all have Windmills and Clowns Mouths.

I played a nice course in Lorton, VA called Pohick Bay. Its not bad.

You're not going to find a house like that though, if you're staying in VA. Realize that the list prices you're looking at online are just the starting point, most places go for $50K-$150K over the list price. If you want a house, you're going to have a long commute in the morning (evenings too).
