It was cold! I couldn't keep my hands in the water very long...had to switch hands releasing the fish hehe.

The coldest fly fishing I experienced was in 11 degree weather. I was trying to dry fly fish, but the fly would be a solid ball of ice after a cast or two and of course the line and reel would freeze.

I remember using a zonker (big streamer fly) in some fast water that day and seeing up close a big trout going after the fly. I was casting the zonker a little upstream and it was right by me when the trout went after it. I think the trout flat out missed it. I never had it on the line or felt it. There was a lot of slack in the line at the time, though. It was just cool to see.

I really enjoy fly fishing when it's snowing. Some day we won't have to deal with the guides on the rod freezing completely closed, but just being out fly fishing makes it worthwhile to deal with. I enjoy the power day snowboarding and fly fishing trips.
