One of my first objectives would be to abolish the tax code and implement a reasonable (I mean 1-5 cents) national sales tax. This way everybody is operating on equal ground. Rich or poor, legal or illegal residents, CPA's and lawyers with all the tax code loopholes, etc., etc., all would have to pay into the system has we all have to buy goods and services. My feeling is that the tax code as it exists today is so cumbersome, is kept alive to keep the livelihoods afloat of some very influential people who would lose much should the tax code go way.

With a national sales tax, in lieu of income taxes (which my husband and I pay substantially), I could almost envision our national debt withering away.

Perhaps this notion is simplistic an naive, but in many cases simple is better!
