I have helped many many beginners. The best advice I can give you is to invest in lessons now.
$150 spent over a period of weeks and months on a series of 3-4 lessons can be the very best gift you can give to yourself in your quest to learn the greatest game in the world.
Go to your local courses and ask about instructors. Tell them you are a brand new beginner and want a "short series" of lessons over a few weeks. They will give you a better deal than just one. Then, you take lesson one, hit the range 2x a week and play 1-2x week - take another lesson. Repeat cycle.
You have a chance to learn to play the game properly - before you get bad habits that are so tough to break...
