Since I live in Northern Indiana I can really only suggest courses up this way. I'd suggest Rock Hollow just outside of Peru. (About two hours straight north of Indy) I've had the pleasure of playing there a few times in High School. In the past it’s been ranked on the best courses in Indiana, and one of the Best Courses in the U.S. you can play for under $50.

Well, I've never played here, but there's a course outside of Columbus called Otter Creek that was designed by Robert Trent Jones. It's considered one of the better Courses in the State.
