Slow Play Theory
I have a theory about slow play at my local county owned course. This course gets a lot of play by "seniors" (I'm not that far away myself so don't view this as bashing the oldsters!) and my observation is the 65+ generation consider golf a leisure activity and they use the time on the course to socialize, as well as play golf. Their round is usually very casual, very conversational, and very slow paced. That's the way it was when they began playing and that's just the way they're going to play. A lot of us behind that generation (literally) began playing the game as a sport, and a competition, as well as, a time together with friends. Most of us just play the game a little faster. We're never going to speed them up, and they're never going to understand why we won't slow down. That being said...I enjoy playing with the "oldsters" because I love hearing the old golf stories they tell......when we're backed up on the tee!
