Unfortunately, their site probably crashed because of all the people going to their site to see the pictures of Tiger's wife naked (or at least that's what they thought they were going to see). I hope it's more the reason you suggested, but if I had to put money on it, I would be betting on my explanation being more accurate.
There's an old saying "there's no such thing as bad press." Think how much publicity this has given the rag that printed these pictures. Their name is a lot more known now than they were a week ago.
