Scrambles

Just wondering how many of you play and enjoy playing in scrambles? I play in at least 5 most years and one local course even does a 9 hole weekly scramble that I play some of the time.

Also wondering what the best winning score you have ever seen is?

I've heard stories of 15 and 16 but the best I have seen was -14 and the team had two teaching pros. Usually -10 will get you the win at most of the heavily particapated ones I play in.

For anyone who doesn't know what a scramble is, it is a format where you have usually 4 players, though the format would work for any number of multiple players. It is pretty simple, everyone tees off on each hole but you only use one of them, the best one. Then everyone goes and hits from that spot and you repat all the way to the hole, even on the greens. That is why the scores can be so low because you get 4 looks at birdie or eagle if you get on in regulation. The one catch is usually that you have to get at leat 2 drives from everyone. I've played in some where it was 3. This brings strategy into the game instead of allowing teams to just follow a big bomber around all day.

Anyways, just curious about the feelings on this format. I actually think it would be a great format for the Ryder Cup but keep it at two man teams.

Two man scramble, Tiger and Furyk vs Sergio and Donald. That would be pretty cool IMO. Better than alternate shot.

I hate alternate shot. Playing it I mean. I don't mind it as a Ryder Cup format though but do think a scramble would be fun to watch.
