I'm going to be changing my irons soon, they were going to be for Xmas - but now I'm unsure of which ones to go for. I'm currently using Callaway X16 with uniflex steel shafts and had decided to go for the Titleist 775s (reg steel),
However, my local pro (decent guy) offered me a storming deal of a set of almost new Callaway X18 with graphite shafts, like I had in my previous set of X12s................. and then he let me take a Mizuno MX-900 5, 7 and 9 iron (reg steel) on the course to 'have a go' with. What a different feeling they have .... brilliant clubs (certainly in a 5, 7 & 9 anyway).
Almost convinced that the Mizunos are for me, when the pro puts me on the simulator (he calls it a stimulator - his sense of humour I guess) and suggests that I would get more head-speed from a graphite shaft (cos I'm getting older!!).
Here's the quandary I have, the graphite shafted Callaways are a definite no after hitting the Mizunos but the Titleist 775s are still in the mix. I have heard, and seen comments on this forum, that the Mizuno stock graphite shafts are not particularly good, so do I stick with steel or upgrade the shaft to the Aldila NV that is offered as a custom option?
Secondly, the Mizuno MX900s have 'easy-hit' type of heads on the long irons, very similar to the rescue woods that I currently use (never been keen to use to my 3 or 4 irons, carry Taylormade Rescues instead). For those that have MX900s, is it likely I could ditch the rescues in favour of the long Mizunos?
Or should I stick with my original plan of Titleist 775?
Got myself totally confused now !!!
