I still remember him backing off that 3 footer at the 72nd hole of the 1978 Masters because he heard the radio announcer. Not as painful to watch as Doug Sanders at the 1970 Open - Hubert's putt was probably twice as long - but I felt very bad for him. You never once heard him complain about it or blame anyone but himself.

Tells you something about the man's character that he posted four more Top 5s that season, and won a half dozen more titles plus a major afterwards. That sort of thing would have devastated many golfers.
