Re: Weekly Contest #10: Why did you start golf?
I played a bit in High School, but really loved Volleyball and Basketball. Later in life, as I discovered being 5'11'' and white, not being able to jump out the Gym, I had no professional future in the games I loved. I was 30, starting to ache a bit after playing, and a friend said "You have to go on our Myrtle Beach trip, it's the most fun you will ever have."
I had no clubs, hadn't played in 10 years but loved to have fun with my friends. I went on the trip, had the best time, and even managed 2 birdies enroute to my 100s and 110s scores. It was all it took, 1 good shoot, and one good hole.
1000s of dollars later on clothes, clubs, balls(lots of them) I find that one great shot, even on a day when I am playing horrible, it brings me back every time!
