Re: Going to Scotland for the 1st time!!
Play Turnberry if you can. I think it was a magnificant course and does not get the attention that it deserves. I loved the course and the caddies were a blast there. The hotel there had the best shower in Europe (or at least it felt that way). People generally avoided Turnberry's 2nd course that Monty adjusted.
Prepare for humiliation at Royal Troon. We played after a rough drinking night and that course ate me up. I parred the postage stamp, but the rest was not so much fun for scoring. Just a fraction off and you will pay.
Western Gailes is quite the course and near Prestwick (if i remember). I was not driving.
I never got to play the old course, so I don't know the area. Doonbeg may be another course to fill in your Scotland trip of a lifetime.
Drink nightly with your family and really meet people at the bars. The locals really kept my spirits up and made me laugh every day. Have a blast and best of luck.
