I don't think slow play is the issue if you are using threesomes on alternate nines. If you have 84 players (42 on each nine, that is 14 threesomes). You put 9 minutes between each threesome, and that is 2 hours and 6 minutes. Now, if you have more, then it is more problems. There is the potential of backlog (players on the front nine waiting fro players on back nine to tee up). I don't think it solves the problem. It only works if you have twosomes or threesomes starting on the same tee.
