New guy from Iowa

Well, I am a 29 Male....married with 2 beautiful daughters. I have lived in Iowa my whole life and have to deal with the ever-changing weather. 100 in the summer at times and negatives in the winter. Great fun!

I just started golfing last year, and golf without a doubt is a fun yet frustrating sport. I am very athletic and most sports come very easy for me. Golf unfortunately does NOT. I am possibly one of the worst golfers that posts here now I can look like Tiger Woods at times, knocking a 300 yard drive, and other times my 7 year old could hit the ball further.

I started off playing pretty decent when I first picked up the game. As the season progressed, my game got considerably worse. I went from hitting my irons very well to not being able to hit an iron to save my life. The same thing happened this year. I started off decent, and now I can't hit my irons once again. I think at the beginning of a new year, I have forgotten all of the things I had changed in my swing to make it worse. Now that the season is in full swing I have started to make more and more corrections that are incorrect Now my irons go really high and really short.

My drives are another story. I can do 1 of 3 things with them. Long and straight.....Long and WAY right with a nasty slice. Or Long and Left with a nasty hook. I think I overcorrect quite a bit. My typical drive is a BAD BAD BAD slice. My outside to in swing doesn't help much

Lessons would be my biggest benefit at this time, but before I do that there are few things I need to get better at first. And that is hitting the ball solid consistently. A golf pro would laugh if he saw me hit a fat one, then hit one thin, and then drill one.

My drive usually turns out much better if I take a half swing. The ball goes straight. I think this allows me to keep the club on the correct swing plane. I generally lose 30 yards on my drive, but I am ok with that if I don't have to hit my 2nd shot out of a bunker or trees.

They say that practice makes perfect, so all I can keep doing is playing a lot, which I plan to do.
