You have to make sure you use plenty of solvent. I nearly fill my grip with solvent, swish it around, pour it all over the tape and quickly slide that puppy on. Even after it sticks a bit, you can twist it straight.

Also, there is grip tape out now that is water activated. Some guys use an air compressor and don't even use tape. I've not personally done this yet. Hopefully someone will link you.
