the butt of the club I guess isn't right in my croch area...I overaggagerated. If I make a fist I just bearly put a fist between the butt of the club and my zipper.

A good measurement for distance from the ball. At address, your left hand (assuming rt. hand golfer) should be directly below your chin. If it is inside your chin you are too close and possible too upright in your posture. If it is outside your chin then just the opposite.
