Re: Need help buying clubs

Slim,

Just curious of how long have you been playing golf. I know you said you were a beginner, but have you been messing around with the game for a couple of months or longer or did you just decide to pick up the game. Reason I ask is because If you're committed than you should do as One Putt advised and try to buy a better quality set of irons, you'll thank yourself down the road. If you've decided to try the game out and want something to learn with than a set like the Top Flite complete set (owned by Callaway) might not be a bad option keeping in mind that within a year you'll probably be needing to upgrade. Still, I believe the better option is to buy a set of used or new last year model irons and forget about the woods for now since they will be more of a risk than reward. Hitting the ball in the air and advancing down the fairway is far more fun then searching for OB balls.

As for where to buy, do you have any local golf retail shops in town? That would be the first place to go as usually the staff is well informed. Yes, you might find a better deal on the internet but where do you go if and when you have any problems with your equipment? Plus, at a local store you shouldn't have to worry about the chances of purchasing fake clubs.
