Health
I posted this on another forum and thought maybe you might like to read it. I am not an expert but I did take some classes on it and I also have learned about these types of things because I have pre diabetes myself and I needed to research eating habits so I can control blood sugar levels. On a soap box note I must say that eating good foods with natural nutrients is overlooked and the importance of it, pertaining to mental health, is underestimated. We fight colds and other things with perscription with pills instead of vitamins and foods. All this does is put a band aid on the problem (kind of like a quick swing fix) which will show up again. People who are good golfers will tell you to take lessons just like people who are healthy will tell you to eat right. But dont listen to that because then the drug companies may loose some bussiness, they want you to think nothing is your fault and they can fix it with there pills.
So much to write but I will try to keeep it concise. I like to be realistic so this is not the hard core program but rather a doable way to live. First of all 4-5 meals a day is best but at least 3! think of your body/metabolism like a fireplace, keep a log on the fire and you dont have to start and stop all the time. You keep your body in the mode of constantly processing foods so it is more effecient, kind of like driving a car on the highway, gets better gas milage than driving in stop and go city traffic.
Most people will not diet dillegently so dont focus so much on what you cant eat! What you do is go to the store and buy 5 cucumbers, green peppers, head of brocoli, some different fruits, etc... Tell yourself OK I will eat like normal this week but between monday and saturday I must also eat 5 cucumbers, one head of brocoli, 2 sevings of fresh fish, one lean cut of beef, 2 grilled chicken breasts. Get my point? Eat bad foods the rest of the time. I say this because Goals cannot be unrealistic otherwise you will snap and say **** this. Eating habits that are 40% right are better then eating habits that are 10% right. Also, eat your vegtables RAW as much as you can stand it. When we cook certain foods we take away a lot of vitamins, nutrients
Eat in categories! Meat takes four hours to digest, whole grain breads and such take about 2, fruits and vegtables take about an hour. Stack the foods in the order of shortest to longest. say for breakfast you will eat a banana, muffin, and eggs, go and eat the banana first, then the muffin, and then the eggs. body can digest much more effeciently! This is better the clumping them all togethor. Think of rolling coins. If i dump a big jar of pennies, nickels and quarters on the table at once you will have to sift through, if I put them in seperate piles you will have a much easier time. Also, like starting a fire! first you light newspaper, then add small wood chips, then add big logs.
Do some exercise. Definitely do some back and abb exercises, only 10-15 minutes a day 2-3 times a week will do a lot of good. If you can do more then by all means go for it!!! Also, when you are 160 yards from the green and you hit it on, grap your putter from the bag and tell your partner to go ahead while you walk to the green. I find this also is a good way to stay calm and helps me play better.
bring a banana, raw cucumber, raisens, mixed nuts etc and eat throughout the round! RAW fruits and vegtables are much better for you and have more nutrients.
To keep flexibility remember to stretch AFTTER THE ROUND!
this is just a briefing of some things, any specific questions and I can answer them to the best of my ability
AND ALSO
Some little tips which might not seem like much but in the long run may add up, I am sure if I told you a way of how to reduce your handicap by a half stroke you might see that as significant! For breakfast you can eat scrambled eggs and use four eggs and take out two of the yolks. still tastes pretty much the same but with a lot less of the cholestoral. If you eat pizza, french fries, bacon, or other greasy foods you can take a paper towel and put it on top/underneath the food to let it soak up some of the grease. I cook with a spread called earth balance. It is supposed to be better for you then most of the other butter/magarine spreads and it is natural. Also, try to eat more natural foods. Preservative means to preserve, therefore foods with preservatives are harder to break down in the body. Eat whole grain breads, cereals, rice etc. more fiber and nutrients. dont forget your vitamins
But hey, why would you want to think about all that, just continue eating bad so you can have a real fun heart attack or some other severly painfull health complication due to lifestyle choice. Remember that we are not invincible.
