The weather on saturday began to settle down and it looked like our sunday morning game would go ahead, the skies were clear(ing), the sun was (almost) out, it wasn't raining (or snowing) and the wind had dropped from hurricane to a steady gale. We book our time for the morning.

So Sunday morning at 09.04, there is no wind, no frost, no rain and no snow. I find myself standing on the 1st Tee of the Eden Course ( the Old is closed to golfers sunday). Not a breath of wind and I top the ball about 10 yards and almost make it to the ladies tee box.. Arrrrggg!.. anyway, I still make a bogey so I'm relatively chuffed. Then just as we clear the first green someone notices we're playing golf and the sky opens. Not only are we trying to play through Hail, rain and snow but we're struggling the standup in the wind.

This is true winter links golf, struggling in a gale to get your water proofs on, forget the umbrella, if you could get it up you couldn't hold on to it. Its at times like these that that low grass cutting shot that everyone laughs at all season comes in to its own. We trudge our way out and back dreaming of playing somewhere warm and for some unknown reason, even though we are all freezing, a nice cold beer.

Anyone up for a game on Sunday?

Stu
