Every club, fairway metals and driver has an amount of loft, which is 30% of the loft you see as the club sets at address.

a. If you place the ball back and hands forward of the clubhead (and you must keep this through impact to make it work) you decrease the loft causing a shot that is a lower with more roll.

b. If you place the ball forward and hands even with clubhead or a bit back (and you must keep this through impact to make it work) you will increase loft creating a higher shot with less roll.

Note: the more you exagerate ball placement and hand placement the more you increase or decrease loft.

1. When working on loft or less loft you always need the correct weight shift which is to have 60% of your weight on the front foot at impact.

2. if you have a weak grip all shots will be a bit higher and if you have a strong grip you will have a lower shot, so the more neutral your grip the more control you will have of the loft you desire.

I hope this helps,
