This is, in fact, their third season at Mirasol. In 2003, when Justin Leonard held off DL3 for the victory, the tournament was played on the Arthur Hills-designed Sunset Course.
Last year, the event moved to the Tom Fazio-designed Sunrise Course, which is actually a pretty good course...for a Fazio. I guess the most distinctive features are the pushed up greens which fall off on all sides and are somewhat reminiscent of Donald Ross designs. When set up properly (and with help from Mother Nature) this tests iron accuracy and distance-control, and brings the short game into play because we should see a lot of chipping, pitching, flopping and the like. |
