Precept PWR Drive Golf Ball Review

Got a box of these last weekend...was playing NXT Tour ('04) before then but starting to find my drives were fading (ahem!) a little too much when i tried to really cut loose...got caught by the hype "40% less sidespin than other balls" of the PWR Drive's and so gave 'em a go...

off the tee you can't fault them...in fact the harder you try and hit them the straighter they get...distance seemed about the same, maybe a bit longer due to the straighter ball flight but only about 10-15yrds i would say...

off the fairway with a wood or rescue-mid...same story...very straight, and pretty good length...

all well and good until you get to within 150y...the contact with an iron on these balls is very dead, probably due to the very low compression (55) i guess...the ball flight is also very low, in fact it felt as if i was thinning the shot every time...as such, zero spin or trajectory meant i was overunning the greens every time...

as for putting...not sure if it was me losing concentration due to chipping/putting from off the back of every green or that the greens were in fairly poor condition on the day but these balls did not putt well...seemed very inconsistant in terms of distance...normally similar stroke lengths (i use the Pelz methodology) gave wildy different results...very depressing as i rely on my putting to keep my score decent :)

haven't 3-putted for 11 rounds until last weekend...thanks to the PWR Drive i posted three 3-putts and one 4-putt...argh!

as a result, i'm selling the rest of the box on eBay for pennies and either going back to my NXT Tour (maybe the '05...anyone tried these yet?) or maybe try the HX Hot...

overall, 2 stars...
