I just want to let everyone know that the software for Golf Rewind will be updated sometime this weekend. During that time, Golf Rewind may experience some downtime. I also want to let everyone know that when Golf Rewind comes up, all features that are on the forum now may not be available. If you find that a feature you commonly use is missing after the software for this forum is updated, please post about it in this thread and I will try to add it as soon as possible.
Well, since I haven't logged on for a while, I can hardly take credit for most of the hard work that goes on around here. I think everything will go well so let's keep our fingers crossed.
I upgraded vBulletin to 3.5 on my site when it was officially announced. It went very well. I made a file containing all of my changes that would have to be redone, did the upgrade, then applied my changes. I worked on it for a couple of hours or so altogether, but the site was only down during the upgrade itself which was probably about 30 minutes.
In my opinion, there isn't anything major that the users will see different. There is so much more that could be done, but it doesn't look like vBulletin is going to get a major upgrade very soon.
I've brought the site back online but it will take a while to get everything back to normal. For now, you can still use the forum.
I will give a while but one thing I noticed is that the Avatars on the post are not showing and Photos in the Gallery are gone Gallery states global failure. Could be on my end also no longer have spell check though I let you know like I said could be on mind end.
I haven't done a systematic inspection of the site, but I noticed that the Edit button didn't work when I wanted to fix a typo in a post I'd just made.
Other observations (possibly trivial):
Home page no longer shows me who's been online in last 24 hrs. But maybe it's not supposed to.
New Posts told me there were over 300 new posts (my last visit was about 14 hrs ago). Seemed like a lot! Many of the new posts were threads that I never read and were formerly too old to have turned up in a New Posts search.
One of the things I'm not a real big fan of is the "new post" symbol on the main forum page. Because I don't use the "New Posts" function much, I just scroll down through the main page and see which forums have new posts. Before, with the green/grey symbols, it was simple, but now you really have to look closely sometimes to see if the symbol is a little darker.
Oh yeah, and the forum is blue now. Call me old-fashioned, but a golf forum should be green.
On the positive, changing fonts, sizes, and colors for a single phrase is easier, which I like.
