Please Help Us With The Spammers

We've had a large influx of spammers recently. We would really appreciate it if anyone who sees such a post would PM us ASAP. You could then just delete the PM from your sent items so as not to fill up your box. There are only 5 of us watching the site and we all live in the same couple of time zones. There are going to be many times when none of us are on and a PM warning when we log on would really help us clean up the trash much more efficiently. Thanks

If you ever feel the need for someone to keep an eye in a different timezone, just give me a shout.

What's the difference between a PM and the Red Flag (report bad post)?

I don't believe the Red Flag function is working properly.

We would like nothing better, Buns. Unfortunately Victory is the only one who can grant that sort of power and we haven't heard from him in awhile.

But if you are not on the site, you wouldn't get a PM either. Would you?

They would get the pop up PM message as soon as they log back on to GR, and they could go directly to the spammer's post and delete it. That way they don't have to read through all the new posts to find it.

I agree Pings the red flag does not seem to work there seems to be many other problems with the site as well since Victory or Paul the owners and the head administrators of the site or not around or around very little if any. The site seems to be running on its own with no one at the helm right now to guide. I will say even at that it proves that the members of this site are one great group of people to hold together this forum and keep undesirable post and posters off here. So hats off to all the Mods who work so hard to give us a great forum.

Mods here is to you for a great job.

Sometimes, we might forget that the moderators have jobs and lives that prevent someone from being on the site 24/7. It's probably a case of Murphy's Law that the offending spammers make their posts during times when our mods have to be away. The mods do an outstanding job of maintaining this great forum, and all of us can certainly help them out.

PingsRbest is right about the PMs. I read mine 1st when I log on. I immediately address any problems that have been brought to my attention. I'd like to especially thank Butter Knife Guy, mr3856a and of course PingsRbest for alerting me a number of times about bad posts. I'm sure that more of you have done the same and your help is greatly appreciated.

It's better out here with the rest of us. I was a mod for a bit and you wouldn't believe the amount of garbage you have to dig through. I think at one point there were eight of us behind the scenes and it was still a chore. I can't imagine with the amount of new members and the recent spam attacks how much is going on.

You really have to have a stomach for the mod thing, I would guess that I only posted a couple of dozen times on the forum in the time that I was a mod. I almost regretted logging on, because it turned into a job instead of someplace I enjoyed visiting. It would be nice for our current staff if Vic would show up or give them some help, but like someone said it looks like the ship is just running itself lately. Showing up for two days over the course of six months just doesn't seem like giving an honest effort to the site. Good thing we still have the fab 5 taking care of business.

I have done a bit of modding elsewhere and it was never too much of a job, really only a tidying up job because there wasnt really much in the way of posts needing deleted or modified (everyone was well behaved!). Perhaps naively I assumed that GR would be not dissimilar for a regular moderator, I guess the absence of victory means the mods actually have to do admin as well as moderating....

Until Vic gets back we have to cover it all. Hope fully he will return by the end of June.
