Thread Subscriptions
Maybe the setting for subscriptions could be put in the User CP. That way you don't subscribe automatically. Unless you scroll down of course!

There's an option in the CP that allows you to set a default subscription setting.
Go to the CP Select "Edit Options" You should see a field called "Default Thread Subscription Mode" Fire away!
