I'm wondering if the members here might want a course rating section on this site. We can have people rate their local courses or other courses they've played. We can also use this to find fellow Golf Rewind members who live in our area and possibly have GR outings across the nation or World. I've tossed this idea in my head but haven't done anything. If there's enough response, I will get started on it.

I'm all for a forum that would help GR members get together and play golf. (I'm still going to grab greenguy this fall, when he's not so busy, and get a round or two in.) That part of it sounds like an interesting idea.
The course rating idea is like the judging in the Olympic Gymnastics competition....very subjective. What's a nice track to one member might not be so well liked by another. A perfect example of this is a day or so ago a member remarked that a course I have played several times (Faulkwood Shores) was "a typical muni." Granted, this course is not a resort course but it can be challenging and does have a history. It's a traditional, tree lined, layout that has held qualifiers for the PGA Tour's Buick Open in Grand Blanc Michigan, so it's not a push over for any handicap. My point is that players of different abilities will certainly rate courses differently.
I personally wouldn't care what type of course I was playing if I was there enjoying myself with other GR members.
I tried to start a thread to get this idea going, but a section to itself and better organization would make this really beneficial as far as I am concerned. Especially as golf rewind grows!!!
Well, a course ratings section would not only be to give it a numerical rating. I would hope people would post a little review to give people a better idea of things.
Wanted to explain my "I don't care" vote. If the section described were of interest to lots of GR members, I'd say great. Personally, I probably wouldn't be as interested in the section as described as others would be, but don't let me stand in the way.
However, the section might have broader appeal if it were a place where people not only discussed courses they've played, but also talked about courses in general. Sure, people could rate (or otherwise discuss) their local courses, make arrangements with other GR members to get together, etc. But the section could also be a place where people could discuss:
---the courses being played that week on the various tours (PGA, Euro, LPGA, etc.)
---course architecture and design
---course maintenance
---other course operations
So my "I don't care" vote was not exactly accurate. I think that the original idea, if broadened as above (or in other ways), could be appealing.
I think reviews are a great idea. I love to read reviews for courses when I travel and I'm looking for someplace to play, but you need to be careful about reviews. One of the problems with Golfcourse.com reviews is that they do not require identification. What ocurred there is that golf course workers were posting great reviews for their courses and poor reviews for nearby courses.
Haha Mo, I definitely know that. When I was in high school, me and my friends all worked at the course I still work at. We would rate our course significantly higher than the other area courses just due to our natural bias. In actuality, none of the courses in my area would rate all that high just due to the fact that they probably aren't in as good shape as many in other areas of the country. The only thing going for them is they are cheap to play. The nicest course within 20 miles of me is a private course that you can play with a member for $35 riding (half the course was designed by Ross to boot).
I have recently created a new golf website portal (Golf Course Rankings).
The website allows golfers to rank a course by a number of criteria: overall golf experience, the value for their money, course difficulty, fairways condition, tee blocks, course design, condition of greens, the service at the proshop, and normal pace of play for an 18-hole round. The site also allows visitors to leave their comments on their impressions of the course.
By encouraging our golfing readers to write reviews of their own golf experiences you can be sure that you're getting balanced and unbiased views from a variety of golfers' personal experiences.
Any new courses added would be appreciated. I am slowly adding new courses and visitors suggest courses based on where they are located. I am located in Northern Ontario and close to Minnesota.
I have treid to search the site for some reviews / suggestions for Golf Courses at any one place.
It would be nice to have an area with suggestions for courses, especially when one travels to areas not known before, meaning an easy look up for what courses are good / costs etc for location A or B.
I travel a lot and try to take my clubs with me and am then forced with trying to google my way to find a course. Would it not bepossible with the 1500 + members of this board to create some sort of database for all user to access this type of information.
My apologies if this has been brought up before and I am simply not capable of finding it
Just like the equipment review area, you could break it up into sections. Using the United States as an example, we could have 12-15 regions to post our review. Maybe have that many more covering the rest of the globe. It would be nice if you were traveling to get an idea of what was available to play.
