log in/out

Logging in doesn't necessarily log one in. I've found that the only real way to log-in is to click the reply button for a thread. On the same note clicking either of the log out links does not log one out.

Something to check out.

If you ever have problems logging in or out, it is probably a cookie problem. What would help is going into your preferences and deleting all cookies from Golf Rewind.

If you continue to have problems, please post them in here. Thanks!

If it's not my system, which was the case this time, I don't exactly feel comfortable deleting anything on anyone else's system but mine. Now I'm logged in to a system that I rarely use, and the person who's system that is can access GR under my account because I wasn't able to log out. See what I'm getting at?

Why have a log out link if it doesn't work properly?

I've never had a problem logging in or out with the link. It's the cookie setting like he said, more than likely.

I never log out. I don't know why you would... unless you share a computer with someone else. But my computer has multiple users, which keeps cookies and whatnot separate anyway.

If you have troubles logging in or logging out, it's a problem with the cookies. Personally, I've never had any trouble using the logout in the navigation bar. I've heard from a few other members that they've had problems logging in/out but deleting cookies always worked. If you can't delete cookies, I don't really have a solution. Sorry.

How about something along the lines of what eBay or Hotmail does. Automatically logging one off if they have left the page for a certain amount of time?

I use four different systems and I'm now logged on to GR permanently on all of them, anyone can use my account if they don't, or maybe do, know better. YIPPEE!

Deleting cookies on someone else's system isn't going to hurt anything on the computer, that's why they are called Temporary internet files, they eventually get deleted or overwritten by the computer itself. If you don't want to delete the cookies on someone else's computer fine, don't. But if you are concerned about someone using your handle on those computers, maybe you shouldn't get log into the forum until you are on your own computer.

Look, I know how cookies work. I also know how picky people can get with their computer. No matter how insignifacant you may think the problem is, it is not my place to screw with their system. I am not posing this question simply to satisfy my own problem. I'm sure others may have the same issue as well.

Victory, any thoughts on my suggestion? Is that possible?

I'm sorry, remote. Deleting cookies is really the only way to fix the logout problems. I wouldn't change the default setting of staying logged in because most members prefer it that way. I'm wondering, are you experiencing these problems with all 4 computers you access this site on?

Also, next time you log in, you might want to leave the "Remember Me" box unchecked.

Hey victory,

Yes, all 4 computers are facing the same problem. I see the "remember tab" but even though that is there, I think the log out button should be able to log one out completely. I don't mean to compare you to other message boards, but the others I use, all have the login/out process, but when I log out there, they actually log me out.
