Sometime in the next two weeks, we will begin moving Golf Rewind to a dedicated server. GR has grown immensely since it was founded and we have outgrown anything our current Web host can provide us. paul and I have supported this site from the beginning but we would also like to thank all of the Supporting Members who have helped to make it possible for us to afford this kind of change.
I am just posting this bulletin because I would like to warn everyone that they might experience some downtime with the site. We have been planning this transition for a while so hopefully, we won't experience any downtime at all but I just wanted to give everyone an advance warning.
There will be no changes I can foresee with the new server. Right now, Golf Rewind is hosted on a server with who knows how many accounts? When we move, we will be on a server dedicated to hosting Golf Rewind. To put it even more simply, there will be a computer somewhere in the World with the sole function of hosting GR.
Cedarrat, when we chose our Hosting provider, we did a lot of research to pick the best one. I hate to leave this Web host because they've been so great to us but our needs have grown a great deal recently.
That would help. I'll keep my fingers crossed because nothing loads faster than GR for me, currently.
Hopefully, things with the new host go well. I have heard nothing but positive things about them. If things turn sour, we can move back to our old host. They offer the solutions we need but we decided against them because they charge more for less features. Sometimes, you get what you pay for but we can only wait and see.
Well, that was unsuccessful. I took Golf Rewind down at around 2:15 AM Eastern time and brought it back up at around 5:10 AM Eastern. So the site suffered almost 3 hours of downtime but I didn't get anywhere. Hopefully, I can get the problems encountered today ironed out and get things switched over soon.
try cloning everything just change one letter on the pages. then you have to pages that are identical then shut one down the you have the first one all you have to do is change the names back. Don't if this is possible but it is how I would try to do it.
Well, it's a variety of problems that have been cropping up. First, it had to do with the port my Web host uses for SSH. For some reason, they use something other than the default port. Then, the database server kept running out of memory when I tried to execute a command. I could list all of the problems but some of them are really technical and I'm sure nobody really cares.
What makes the problem even worse is I try to make the transition at night/early morning when traffic here is low. That is also the time when the Support staff is barebones and my requests always get to the level where they have to be taken care of a day time administrator.
I'll be trying again tomorrow night. I'm getting closer...
