What Southern California course was this? Help!!
Please help me find this Southern California course I played in college.
In 1976 I played my best round ever on this course. I played in a three-way match for Occidental College, sank 200 feet worth of putts on the front nine, shot even par 72 and beat the field by 10 strokes. I remember the round, but not the name of the course, the exact location, or the exact order of the holes.
Distinctive holes.
The 1st hole is a straight par 5 with a water hazard down the left.
The 3rd hole has a split level green.
The 18th hole is a par 4 with a lake on the left and trees right. Many players hit irons off the tee to stay short of the lake. In the darkening twilight i could not see the lake, hit driver left and got saved by a trap.
It was a private course
Location: An hour's drive from Occidental College ( Oxy is near Glendale. ).
Partial Scorecard
Front Nine Par: 5 3 4 * * * 4 3 4
Back Nne Par 4 3 * * * * * * 4
I would really appreciate your help finding this course again. I'd like to describe the drama of the day and the training that let me make 200 feet of putts, but the story is not complete without identifying the course.
Thanks,
Doug Flegal
