Bay Area, CA grass practice areas?

Most of the driving ranges near San Francisco are "mats only", and a bucket of 100 balls runs $10.

There are ranges that I know of in Foster City (peninsula area), Oakland (east bay), Walnut Creek (northeast bay area), and Livermore (way out there) that offer driving ranges where you can hit off of turf at least part of the week.

Does anyone know of any others? Also, are there any ranges in the Bay Area that are a lot cheaper than $10 a bucket? I don't mind a 20 mile drive (especially if I can go play a nearby course at twilight afterwards).

Down here in Fairfield there is a course that will let you use the grass a few times a week. Its just a little more than 20 miles away though....

Peacock Gap in San Rafael does, I forget if its during the weekends or summer weekdays. You need to go early, later in the day its hard to find any good grass to hit off of.

Not sure how far south you are willing to go, but Cinnabar in San Jose has an awesome practice facility and full grass range.

Re: Bay Area, CA grass practice areas?

Probaby a bit far, but:

Pleasanton Golf Center has grass range, no woods though and a par 3 course. This is in the middle of the Pleasanton Fairgrounds horse track.

Out in Sunol (souths side of the freeway) as you are going to the Sunol Golf Course there is a driving range that has grass.

The Bridges in San Ramon used to let us hit from the Grass (and does the week that the LPGA is in town) and has a good deal on the range. You can buy $150 worth of balls on a rang card for $100. So to start you get a 20% discount!

San Bruno is affiliated with Mariners Point, Fremont Golf Center, and Burlingame Golf Center.

Mariners Point charges $3 for the grass... it's worth it. Mats are pitiful little pads to hit off of.
