Best Canadian Golf Course

Hello everyone,

I was just wondering what the best Canadian Golf Courses are with resorts. I am planning a family vacation in Canada and want to find where the best course is. I have seen an article at Top North American Golf Resorts and it mentions the Banff Springs Hotel. Has anyone played this course?

Alex

Re: Best Canadian Golf Course

I had a wonderful round playing with a black bear at the Whistler Resort course once. Actually, a black bear kept running across the fairways most of the afternoon that we played. And the Banff Springs Hotel course looked marvelous -- did not get a chance to play it while I was there but it has a wonderful reputation and is in an unbelievably beautiful location.

Re: Best Canadian Golf Course

Luckily I can give you a review of the Stanley Thomson Banff Springs Course. My wife and I spent out 10th wedding anniversary in Jasper and Banff National Forests this past June. Sure beats the weather in Texas in June and the sun dosen't go down till 11:30pm.
Well here is the good about the Stanley Thompson Course, it ranks in the top 100 courses you can play outside the US by Golf Digest.
How it got that ranking I have no idea, it is a decent course, but your in the mountains and I have played courses in Kansas with more elevation changes. It is not worth the $225.00 green fee.
Now around the Banff area, which is awesome by the way if I ever win the lottery my Summer home will be in Banff Alberta, is some truly sepctacualr golf courses. Mainly Stewart Creek and Silvertip, 15 minutes away in Canmore. Both courses are amazing with elevation changes and scenery to match any mountain course in the world. Silvertip is where Stephen Ames calls home btw. Both offer great Twilight discounts, but it is still going to be more than $100.00 each, and since it dosen't get dark till almost midnight, there is no such thing as twilight like you have in the states. We finished Stewart Creek at 10:30pm.
A few hours north of Banff up the Columbian Icefields Highway, Take the Glacier tour it is worth it, is Jasper AB which has a the Fairmont Jasper course. Not as nice as the ones in Banff but well worth playing, had some trouble with a marshall there but I would play it again.
Be sure to eat at Saltlik in Banff 2 people is going to be around $200.00 with wine and tip, but OMG it is so worth it.
If you have any questions feel free to ask.
