Aldila NV shaft-reviews

I would like to get some opinions about Aldila NV shafts. I have read a lot of conflicting reviews about the NV. The most common negative being that they play softer than their flex. "In general" should these be avoided for a more aggresive style of swinger? Even with the properly matched flex. Are they designed for a lower handicap player?
Thanks!

Dave

Hi Dave. I love my aldila shaft (NV 65-R) and I have not felt that it plays softer. I have a regular flex, and Im sure that most people on the boards will play stiff flex, so there may be a difference when going to stiff flex. The NVS may be a different story because of the soft tip, but all in all, I have no compliants with my shaft. Hope this helps.
Gavin

I have the Aldila NV stiff flex (I think 67 gram) in my Launcher and love it. My swing speed with the driver is 117-123 and I've had no problems at all with it being softer than normal. (I do have a smooth swing though, not jerky)

I'd say get one in a club from www.tgw.com or something, play it and if you don't like it return it.

With that swing speed how come you don't use X-stiff.
Just curious because it seems alot of players I play with that have high swing speeds use X-stiff (especially in the NV series).
I come here and see gus with the same high swing speeds and they use Stiff flex. Is there a big difference? I play with a family, 2 brothers and a sister, all teaching pro's. She uses stiff flex and the boys use X-stiff, they all rip the ball!

I played the nv stiff flex last year and liked it. I recently switched to a y-s6 and tried the grafalloy prototype, and found that both were straighter, and some extra yards.

My swing speed is 115+ without "getting after it". However I also have a very aggresive swing style due to 20 years of softball. I am trying to smooth it out but it's tough. I am almost certain that I could not swing the stiff flex properly. (Lack of talent on my part). I like the NV shafts but I wanted to get some input before I swing one.

The specs at the Aldila site suggests X-stiff for your speed. I don't think it would hurt to demo the X-stiff to see if you can hit it. As I understand it if the shaft is not stiff enough for your speed it is tough to be accurate. Stiff can be whippy too if you outswing its stiffness. I can be wrong, just stuff I have learned from playing with 3 teachers.

I have stiff NV shafts in my 3W and hybrid and I believe they are true to flex. SS of 115+ is definitely x-stiff range esp with an aggressive swing. I think deronsizemore has a really smooth swing and transition from what i can remember of his swing post.
