I think your buddy should set a time limit, say 12 noon (or very close) for same day service, that way he will be able to judge a lot better the second half of his working day and make his decision on what same day work he can take on.
Make sure he puts a % of the overall cost on as surchage and not set dollars as someone needing just 1 club fixed that is quick and easy won,t be put off and may only have to pay a few $s extra as opposed to the guy who wants the whole works done on a full set who will have to open his wallet a bit further... seems only fair to me.
