Wedge Flex

Last year I bought a Cleveland CG52º 2 dot wedge. I love it and find using it very complimentary into my ping i3+ blade set. Also, on a lark at such a good price at the time ($90 cdn.) I bought a cleveland 900 58º wedge that had a DG S300 shaft. I know thru experience that this shaft was not suited to me but bought it anyway. Sure enough, even in club that I dont often take a full swing with, this club felt awfull. I went to the local golf store recently and with the repair guy away at the time, the 'clerk' who talked down to me as if I was some kinda lost lawnbowler blurted "all wedges are stiff shafted".

I find this hard to believe. Does anybody know the truth or what in fact IS a wedge-flex - the label on my CG10.

54, 56, 60 degree wedges are all stiff slex shafts. I doubt it's the shaft that you don't like, it's the face.

The clerk, though rude, is right. Most all wedges have stiff flex shafts, but that doesn't mean you can't have it changed.

Everyone is right, most wedges are stiff flex but they can all be changed.

No excuse for rudeness.

I read somewhere that John Daly prefers his wedge shafts be more flexible than his other irons. He gets more "feel" that way, according to him. And he has a great short game.

Whatever feels good to you is what you should use.

I don't know if I would change a wedge flex. It might give you better feel on full swings with the wedge, but I'm willing to bet that it throws everything off when you're chipping.

No, its NOT the face.
An update; the 58º is now working 'as-is' and I have played 2 nice rounds of golf with this club saving me about 5 strokes (total). I must have just had a bad bout of doubt with the club earlier that was tied to my own poor play.
I now want to report that I LOVE this Cleveland wedge set (CG10 52º & RTG 900 58º). The 58º is great for tight lies AND sand shots - nice.

I recently bought 60* and a 51* wedge heads from Golfsmith. Just tinkering, I installed R-Flex Rifle "Airlite" shafts. I'm here to tell you, they are absolutely wonderful! I love them around the greens and they really have some kick to them on full shots. I do not like the feel with standard "wedge Flex" shafts either...these really made a difference. Just my two cents.
