what tool?

should i use to butt trim a graphite shaft? Want to take about an inch off the shaft without removing it. What tool should I use? I have a hacksaw and a pipe cutter. If those won't work, what should I use?

I don't think a pipe cutter would work to well on a graphite shaft. I would tape the area you want to cut, secure the shaft in a vice, and use a hacksaw. Let us know which method you use.

this is what I was leaning towards. I knew the pipe cutter was a no go.(but man does it work wonders on the steel shafts I have cut). I just wanted to see if anyone else was using something other than a hacksaw.

Steeler: The hacksaw is the way to go for graphite; and use the finest tooth blade you can find. And PLEASE! Do not tell anyone you got sound advice from a RAVENS Fan!

when i bought my mineral spirits the other day I picked up a wonderful little hacksaw. It's about the size of your standard utility knife. I bought it with graphite cutting in mind. We'll see how it turns out and I'll let you guys know..I can't wait for my belly putter grip to get here..

I am having too much fun doing my own club work.

Golfsmith sells a hacksaw blade especially for graphite shafts. I have one and it works great. I do believe that if you put a piece of masking tape around the area you want to cut and use a really fine tooth hacksaw blade it should work just fine. DO NOT TRY TO USE A PIPE CUTTER!! Good luck.

I use a cutoff wheel in my angle grinder. You can buy those wheels that are 4" and only 1/16" thick. After securing in a shaft, this works wonders and you'll have your shaft trimmed in 5 seconds or so. It'll be a nice clean cut.
