Extending Driver?

Hi all, I'm new to this board and to golfing but I have a question.

I am 6'6" tall and I have all my clubs but my Driver, 5 Wood and SW extended. Should I get the others extended and how much would be reasonable. I think I have a half inch or an inch on my Irons. I hit a Great Big Bertha driver and wondered if my swing might come along faster if it were extended. If it should be extended does anyone have any recommendations on what to do?

I am surprised no one has answered your question. The one-size-fits-all aspect of golf clubs has got to be a problem for tall and small people.

I am 6-1" and have had my clubs extended 1-1/2" and fitted. It seemed to make a difference to me. My local club repair shop was very helpful in helping me with this.

Perhaps you can check with a local pro or club shop for advice.

Good luck

I'd definitely think those three clubs should be extended too, but I'd have a club maker work on fitting you properly, don't want to mess things up and have your swing adjust to incorrect length clubs albeit an inch or two shorter then what they should be.

Woah, 1-1/2"? Wow, I am 6-2" and I have about as errect a posture as you can have and mine are only 3/4" longer than standard. Do you have short arms? I am just curious.

I'm 6'-3" and had mine extended 1". You can buy the plugs from GolfWorks and do it yourself or find someone in your area that is building/repairing clubs. Came across a chart on the net that addressed the problem. Some will tell you that you will have to have your hosel rebent so that it conforms to the "proper" position and some say that you won't be able to tell the difference unless you are a "scratch" player...the latter only applies to those who are scratch players on other courses as well as their own.

Please forgive my ignorance, but I'm not sure what you ment by you want you swing to come along faster? Do you mean you want you swing in general to improve or do you mean you want your swing speed to be faster?

Im 5'9 and years ago I wondered if extending my Driver by 1 inch might help me with distance. It made big difference in the distance I could hit a ball. Then I bought my current driver and had it extended by 1 1/2 inches. And WOW I can hit the ball super long now! Its my little secret. Hope you have the same results. Some food for thought reguarding distance. I noticed those guys how compete in long distance driving compititions have extra long shafts. Best wishes.

I am 6'4 and I don't have any extension on mine and I continue to improve. To me equipment is overrated you could be good with 12 2X4's if you practiced enough.
