Regripping clubs -- Solvent issues

Ok, I am using mineral spirits as a solvent. I applied the 2 sided carpet tape. I fill up the grip with solvent and swish around for a few minutes. At the same time I soak the grip end of the shaft in solvent. I try to slip on the grip as quickly and smoothly as possible. The problem is that when I get about 3 inches down it stops and wont go on anymore and won't come off. So I've already wasted 2 grips. I cut off 1 of the grips as soon as it happened and I noticed that top 2 inches were completely dry. It's like the grip pushed off the solvent and made it sticky before the whole grip was on. I don't know what else to do now.. The grips are Golf Pride Whisper - midsize. And the clubs are Nike Slingshots. Any suggestions. I am going golfing Saturday and need my clubs for then. Do you think my local pro would regrip them in a hurry for me and how much does it cost to get clubs regripped usually?

I have regripped my clubs several times and have never encountered anything like this.

I don't know what 2 sided carpet tape is, perhaps this is the wrong stuff to use. There is a specific 2 sided 'grip' tape that gets pretty slick when solvent is on it.

Are you making sure the entire length of tape on the shaft is totally covered in solvent all the way around the shaft?

Are you emptying the solvent from the grip before attempting to slip it on?

Does the tape you are using get slick when the solvent is on it? (if not, then it is the wrong tape)

When putting solvent in the grip, plug the small hole at the butt end with a tee, pour in some solvent, cover the large end with your finger and shake it so that the entire inside of the grip is covered. then pour the solvent over the tape, remove the tee and slide it on.

Oh yeah, it gets super slick. It seems like it's squeezing off the stickyness of the first few inches and then it wont let the rest of the grip glide on. I'm going to bring the rest to a pro and ask if I can watch.
