Is it beneficial or worth it to have this done on stock shafts in woods? I'm having some new grips put on and this service is only a few $$ more per club.
Forged - I have been quoted as high at $35 PER club for the SST process, yet spining is only $7 per club AT MOST. Could you tell me, what is the difference, you seem fairly knowledgeable on this.
Puring is simply spineing using a frequency meter and a computer, thus the higher cost. Simple spineing is done with three ball bearings. Either method does the same thing, it locates the side of the shaft that is the stiffest, and the side that is the softest.
So when you "spine" a shaft, where on the shaft do you mark? Say you are spinning it in the spine machine by hand and you feel the spot where it changes. How do you align the club after you find the spine?
Mark the butt end of the shaft with a marksalot, one color for the stiff side which is S1 and another color for the soft or natural side, this is called the N1. When you install the shaft put the N1 side facing down range, in the same direction as the clubface.
