Question To tip trim or not to tip trim?

What flex of shaft would you have if you dod not tip trim the shaft? I am curious specifically of a graphite shaft that tip trims from 1/4" in the 4 iron to 2 1/2" in the pw to get a stiff flex shaft....no tip trimming in the 2 or 3 irons. Would I have garbage? Regular? Any feedback on this would be greatly appreciated. There are no directions for tip trimming to a regular flex for this shaft.

You need the shaft specs and contact the manufacturer for tip trim instructions. Some are available via the web.

I have the tip trim instructions for trimming to stiff, there are no trimming instructions for regular.....wondering what flex it would be if I only trimmed the butt end.

I would guess if you are tip trimming 1/4" increments from 4 - PW and no trim is required on 3 and 4 iron that the shafts are S flex only. not combo flex. If the shafts are meant to be tip trimmed, you would be making a big mistake to butt trim these shafts. You would actually have a different flex for every club in the set. If the tip trim increment is 1/4" on the 4 iron the breakdown would be 1/2" for 5, 3/4" for 6, 1" for 7, 1 1/4" for 8, 1 1/2" for 9 and 1 3/4" for PW. If 9 iron and PW are to be the same weight and length the the PW would trim at 1 1/2" also.
