Question double-sided tape

I've searched around the forums, but didn't find what I was looking for.

I can't seem to find what you guys call grip tape or carpet tape here in Korea. All we have are plastic-based double sided tape, used more for wrapping presents than holding rugs in place. I located some golf shops that claim to have some, but they are asking a lot for what looks exactly like the one I mentioned above.

Can I use any double-sided tape for regripping? And would it be better to have the tape wound on the shaft, or a single large piece of double sided tape to cover the whole area?

paikiah,
I use double sided tape designed for gripping golf clubs. I use the 2" width because it seems easier to apply but some prefer to use the smaller width and do a spiral wrap. I guess it's an individual preference thing. As far as carpet tape or the other stuff you mentioned, I have no experience but if I were you I would try to find the tape for gripping golf clubs. I don't know anything about suppliers over there but I usually order what I need from Golfsmith here in the states. Best of luck and hopefully someone here will have something better to say than what I have. Have a good night.
Jerry

There are two types of grip tape that I know of...one type is the same thickness as regular masking tape (with the liner off) and is sticky on both sides...you want to use lighter fluid or equivalent solvent to apply this tape.

The other is a little thinner and is activated with water instead of solvent.

One works just as well as the other, imo.

I used to spiral the tape on but nowadays I just run a strip slightly less than the length of the grip. Either way works just as well, imo, but I think you use less tape the latter way.

Seek assistance if you've never done it before...after one or two you'll have the hang of it. Good luck, paikiah.

I don't know if scotch (plastic-based) would work. The second pic says that it is a paper-based double sided tape... which is what I figure what you guys call grip tape. Think it'll work?

It may be difficult to find in Korea! Here's another method seems to be the favorite method in Australia.
Sqab the interior of the grip with rubber cement and slip the grip on the shaft.
Some apply one layer (2" wide) masking tape to the shaft first, coat that with rubber cement then do the rubber cement method. Install the grip while the rubber cement is still wet.
