Rifle shafts don't have any steps....they have an internal rifling inside the shaft making the out side smooth and step less. That makes them feel softer then DG....of course they also look different. They feel in between the DG and Sensicore.
There are different types of Rifles just like the DG. The most popular are the Project X......used by fast swing speeds and the Tour Flighted. The Tour Flighted Rifle is very similar to the True Temper Tour Concept but cost 60% less. They have a progressive flighted kick point so that longer irons have a lower kick point to help get the ball up and the shorter irons have a higher kick point to keep the ball down. The 5 iron is the middle ground. A Tour Flighted Rifle 5 iron shaft will have the same ball flight as the DG 5 iron. Shorter irons then the 5 will have a lower ball flight then the DG and the 3&4 irons will have a higher ball flight then the DG.
The feel IMO is better in the Rifles then the DG. A set of DG are sold by weight...meaning the kick...or bend points may not be the same in the set....they will differ by a little. Rifles are matched by frequency measured in CPM's. Basically meaning that Rifles are more consistent in the bend point. If you get the Project X in any flex you will get the bend point at the same spot in each iron shaft. The Tour Flighted is different by design. DG will be guess work because they are sorted by weight. A good club maker will get a batch of DG and then measure them to see which ones match CPM's so that they all have the same bend point. It can take a lot of DG shafts to do that so you may never get the same bend point if your club guy is not good or does not care. Rifles are matched at the factory and do not have that problem. To some that is a big deal. Rifles cost more but are more consistent and don't feel as harsh as DG.....which can be important if you play blades, a forged cavity back, or any other club that is more compact with less offset then most game improvement clubs.
Hope this helps
