Cutting down shafts

What effect can cutting length off of a shaft have? Obviously it will effect the swing weight but will it also effect flex? I have clubs that are +1/2" and may want to bring them to standard.

I'd have to imagine not much since you're talking iron shafts here I assume. I often play around with shaft length in my herd of drivers and to be honest hardly every notice much difference in how it flexes...it's more of a swing weight issue for me rather than flex and we're talking graphite shafts.

Are they steel shafts? They'll feel lighter for sure, but I don't believe flex should be off.

I think you should be alright with having them trimmed down, especially since they should be fitting you better. I wouldn't sweat it!

Shouldn't affect them to much, will drop the swingweight. If they're rifles it may change the kick point depending on which end they trim

For every 1/2" cut off you lose 3 swingweights. Flex should not be affected by the simple butt cut.

Cool

Cutting off 1/2 inch will have almost no effect on flex. When a set of irons are assembled, each shaft if tip trimmed and assembled and then butt trimmed to final length, so cutting an extra 1/2 inch off the butt is nothing to worry about. As was mentioned earlier, it will reduce the swing weight, but that can be restored with the addition of a little lead powder in the hosel end of the shaft before the grip is replaced. Best thing to do is check the swing weight as is, and then restore it after the trim job and before the re-grip. It's not a hard job and one I've done before, pretty simple to do. I perfer higher than D2 swing weight in all my clubs, so I'm used to increasing the swing weight of clubs. No big deal.

Also keep in mind that for each 1/2" shorter the club is made, the effective lie angle becomes @1 degree flatter.

all the above seem correct but are the shafts longer or are extension plugs being used if they are using plugs then you can just remove then and the shafts wont be affected!
