I have relatively smooth tempo, not a big hitter. For anyone with a swing setter, I have it set to 2 on top, 3 middle ball. Driver probably goes 240, on avg. This past weekend, I hit a couple 260+. Ive hit 330 before, but that was an insane hit that I imagine hit piles of rocks and kept bouncing (blind tee shot). Right now, I'm using a 983K, 9.5 with YS-6 regular flex, full bore. Relatively hit ball flight. I used to be REALLY straight, but after not playing for awhile and then getting this driver, I slice it every once in awhile. Maybe its the shaft, maybe its the rust. Ive been on a launch monitor once, and it was a LONG time ago and my swing has changed since then. At the time I was hitting a G2 and a Launcher 400. I had about 140MPH ball speed, but thats all I remember..
3 wood, tour edge exotics 3 wood, regular flex stock fuji shaft. Have yet to hit this one really solid yet, but past three woods have been about 225 or so.
5 wood is a S yard Forged titanium 18*, stock regular flex. Good hits, 225. Basic hits, 210 or so.. Probably not going to reshaft this since its so old and I'd rather spend the money on a newer 5 wood if I choose that route.
Irons.. Distance wise, I go about 6 iron from 150. I think I slow down my speed a LOT from my driver speed so I can assure solid contact. I used to be 7 iron, 150. I think Im around 7 iron 140-150. Right now using INnovex RLS with TT TX-90 in regular flex.
Also have a combo set of MP30, MP32. S300. Havent really hit them yet (just got them) so I dont know about them. I'm figuring the S300 might be much since my iron ss is slower.
Questions: Which shafts do you think I should go with for my woods/hybrids.. flexes? Is Regular flex in my woods okay? How about irons? I have one set with S300, one with TX90 Regular.
Any good places to buy this shafts for cheap (pulls).. I figure I stay with a regular flex in my driver since its a titleist bore, but not sure. I know everyone here bombs it, but what do yall think for me? Not looking to spend TOO much since I'm poor.
Aldila nvs in the woods i would say, and if you wanted to change iron shafts why not go for the lightweight nippon pro shafts or maybe the new true temper dynamic gold sl r300, just a few thoughts for ya!
It all depends on how much you load the shaft, which shaft is correct for you. I'd recommend you get tested on the TT ShaftLab and find out what flex is right for you. The distance you hit your clubs is not really much of a factor, it's load. I hit my 9 iron 150 yards carry, and that's an X stiff flex according to most of the data I've read. But the correct flex for be going by how much I load the shaft is a R flex in my irons. I've got X stiff shaft irons and R shaft irons, and I hit the R flex irons much higher, more consistant, and just as long. Forget what anyone tells you, GET YOUR SWING ANALIZIED ON A SHAFTLAB AND GET THE FACTS.
Knowing your swing speed and what kind of ball flight you want will help however here is a guess. Since you have full insert bore thru club head any shaft you put into it will play at least a full flex stiffer. It sounds like to me you need more carry. The Fuji Tour Platform 26.3 will do the trick. Also the Aldila NVS will help too. The Pro Launch will work as well but the feel is not as good as the Fuji or the NVS. Again a soft tip shaft like the ones that I listed will help but you have that Titleist club which will cause a soft tip shaft to play firmer.
Too fix that problem you can get your club guy to put in a 1 inch wood plug or 1 inch peice of another shaft into the the hosel first then insert your new shaft. That will cause the shaft to only be inserted 1 inch instead of a full two and the shaft will play to the specs listed. That is one of the biggest problems with Titleist drivers....that full bore thur hosel makes re-shafting hard.....and the small sweet spot make it harder to hit as well.
If you need any help, let me know. I would need a little more information. We do make a Golf Shaft to Fit Every Swing, AccuFLEX that is, so I may be a little biased, LOL But I will be glad to help
In general if you have a swing that just doesn't quite load a stiff shaft on a driver, do you tend to loose distance vs a regular shaft? I think I'm right at the edge of both, but Im also not getting any younger and want to invest for the future. I know this is pretty general, but we don't have the technical equipment local for swing analysis to be done properly.
No, a shaft too stiff will cause less distance generally by the ability not to load the shaft, if a shaft is too soft, you can create too much spin, and that will cause the ball to baloon.
There is a fine line, and I would suggest a professional fitting, in order to get the proper fit. Finding the right shaft will make all of the difference in the world, in your golf clubs performance.
