Painting a groove

I struggle with closing the face when aligning my iron shots, and want to paint the bottom groove (white I guess) on my irons. Has anyone done this successfully? What kind of paint did you use, and how did you apply it?
Thanks in advance!

Try nail polish. It works great for all types of fill.

I have repainted numbers and grooves on several of my clubs. I have found that a good quality automotive touch up paint works very, very well. It is ultra fast drying and being for automotive use, is a really hard enamel. I will usually use a couple of coats. I clean the area to be painted thoroughly with alcohol before I apply the paint. I usually use a toothpick instead of a brush to fill small spaces. The nice thing about the auto touch up paint is that you can get it in hundreds of colors at any parts store, or even Walmart.

And a Q-tip dipped in Nail Polish Remover takes care of any mistakes you might make.

I know this thread is about paint but I can't help but interject...I, too, used to use the bottom groove to square the clubface to the targetline but have since found it more useful to use the imaginary lines formed by the ends of the grooves, kinda like aiming railroad tracks at the target. My routine would be to choose a line from behind the ball, grip the club and set up as comfortably as possible, line up the railroad tracks, adjust grip and setup to the clubface, possibly wiggle and waggle for comfort, and go. I find it easier to aim the two imaginary lines at the heel and toe of the club at the target than to "ninety up" to the target line...just seems like less calculation and room for error. I think some irons actually have paint at the tips of the groove lines for emphasis. Anyway, just one guy's method...please disregard if it doesn't appeal to/work for you.

Thank you, boys! Think I'll try the "touch-up" auto paint, great idea!

Yep and some irons, particularly older clubs had patterns (diamonds, dots, etc.) set just outside the grooves on both the heal and toe side of the grooves.

Cool

Skinny: I've used white nail polish on my irons for a few years now, ever since I got a new set and they came with white lines. Then I tried International Orange over the first coat of white. Works even better, especially when it's late in the day and it's getting dark. Shows up much better and makes it easier to aim the face of the club at your target. I got the Orange paint at a craft store. Hard to find orange nail polish for some reason.

Cool

Dawg: I got some of that Day-Glow Orange paint and it really shows up well when it starts getting dark at the end of the round. Do they sell nail polish in Day_Glow orange at Halloween?

Go to your local paint store and ask for lacquer sticks, some might refer to them as paint sticks. You could also try asking for a grease pencil. Anyway, you smear it over the groove, filling it in and then you wipe off the excess and let it harden.
