Iron Length

I made myself a new set of Wishon 770C's last summer and tried something new...and it seemed to help! Instead of 1/2 inch increments, I used 1/4 inch starting with 36" for a 9 iron. I've always hit my short irons better so why not! I probably lost a little distance on my long irons but I hit them a lot better. Seems easier to "groove" a swing.

Cool

Not a bad idea. I had pretty much the same idea, but I was going to use 3/8 inch between clubs. That would make the 3 iron about an inch shorter than normal, which would make it the same as a standard 5 iron. Another advantage is the 3/8th idea is the lie angles wouldn't be off as much as using your 1/4 inch idea. As for any lose in distance, my guess is that if you are making better contact with the ball, you might not be losing much if any distance. Solid contact means more then swing speed does.

Good point OnePutt! Interestingly enough, I didn't have any problems with lie angles...don't exactly know why but I tried all the clubs off a lie board and was near center sole on all of them. Well, as near as I usually get!

Tiger Shark used to use quarter inch increments in their clubs. They built everything off of the standard 5 iron. I had a set back in the eighties. It gave you very strong short irons and consistant long irons.

Thomas J nothing wrong with that at all. I read that if you hit say a 5 iron good then 1/4 " increments on the 4 and 3 iron are encouraged especially if you hit it flush with the 1/4 steps. A flush hit is better then a heel or chunk.
