I bought 3 heads from e-bay, 3W, 5W and 7W. I installed a proforce 55 shaft in each. I think they are a blind bore as the hosel depth was 2 inches deep. After tip trimming each I installed a 5 gragm and then installed the shafts. I played golf today and hooked all 3 woods every time I hit them. I hit my irons almost dead straight. Can someone give me some advise? Bob
One thing, hosel depth and BBGM are independent of each other. You could have the same insertion depth on 2 different clubheads that have different Bottom Bore to Ground Measurements. Regardless of the bore type, I really don't think this is a cause for the hooks. However, at least in my experience, too light of a total club weight will do it every time. Differences in total weight is a direct result of shaft weights. And 55g is very light for fw woods, IMHO. Whats the weight of your driver shaft? Typically, a fw shaft that is 8-10g heavier that the driver shaft fits many golfers well. Hope this helps a little
hope you don't mind me picking your brain. Could it be with the lighter shaft I gained some swing speed and I am getting the clubface a little closed at impact?
First off, what's a "5 gragm "? If you're talking about a 5 gram weight being installed inside the tip of the shaft, than that could be part of the problem. That would be like adding the weight to the heel of the head, and that would make the head toe light. As you may know, when you want to stop a slice, you add weight to the heel, which helps to close the clubhead. As for the 55 gram weight shaft giving you more clubhead speed, I doubt it would make much difference, and even if you did gain a little speed, that wouldn''t cause you to start hitting a hook. You could try adding a little lead tape to the toe, and see if that solves the problem for you.

It actually has to do with tempo, rather than clubhead speed. Unless you are super smooth, a shaft that is 30g too light can make a huge difference. It promotes a quicker rushed tempo, which definitely can affect ball flight. Thats why I asked what shaft you had in your driver. If you accustomed to heavier clubweight, your tempo and sense of the clubhead can alter.
Also...if they were blind bore...you must tip trim those shafts...it may be as much as 2 1/2" on the 5W! This will stiffen the shafts considerably and I'm betting it will straighten those shots right up. Please call Golfsmith...I bet they can tell you the specifics.
