Cutting A Shaft

I recently bought a mid-length putter. I ahve never used one, but am hoping it will help my game out. If i dont like the mid-length, can I simply cut the shaft down the length and re-grip it? If i cant can you tell me why? Thanks

I'm certainly no expert at club making but I would't see why not. As long as the grip fits over the shaft where it was cut. My putter has a rather thick shaft so it probably wouldn't work with mine.

Use a pipe cutter as it makes a very nice cut

Thank you foryour help. This forum has become a very helpful place. I didnt think it would effect it at all, but luck, I would cut it and then have the weight be uneven or something like that. But I am surely gonna give it a try if i dont like it. Thanks again!

Cool

First thing to do is measure the shaft at the point you would be cutting it. If its around .600 inches, you should be okay with that part of this. The other thing is that long putter usually have a much lighter head. So if you cut that putter down to say 34 inches, the head will be way too light. Worth checking this before you ruin a good putter and end up with nothing anyone would want to use. good luck what ever you decide.

I'm sorry, I just have to say something here. Mid and Long putters have heavier heads, not lighter ones. Mid length are generally ok to cut down, and you have a nice heavy feeling putter, which I like. Many of the models available now (at least in the component world) have bore angles that are compatible with either standard or mid-length putters.
