Does your Head spin around?

That was actually a line from a stand up commedian in the 80's referring to a girlfriend he had that he thought was like Linda Blair in The Exorcist...

Anyway...a good friend of mine asked me if I could fix his driver, first inspection revealed the head about 1/4 inch away from the ferrule...strange, but even stranger, when I inspected it further the head had actually also spun on the shaft, it was about 90 degrees from it's original position. I know this because the shaft graphics were no longer aligned with the club head.

It is a MacGregor V-foil Hi Launch 10 degree driver with a factory Graphite Design shaft.

Has anyone ever seen this??? Any idea what caused it? He does have a relatively high swing speed but this is something else...if that were it then Tiger would have to have a new driver every hole!

The shaft may have been installed with the graphics down. I do that on all my clubs. I don't like seeing words when I'm getting ready to hit the ball, as there's a good chance I'll be using some bad words after hitting it.

Yes, it was...but they were on the side and the grip I had installed for him was lined up on the other side...

A good chance the epoxy has broken enough to spin but has a ridge somewhere on the shaft in the ferrule to keep the head on. it happens from time to time. have it checked out by a clubmaker. If the club was actually installed that way then very possible that the shaft was what they call "spined" or "pured" for optimum bend points

In that case, the epoxy failed. It could have been old, the shaft may not have been prepped properly, the inside of the hosel may not have been clean enough, or the epoxy may not have been mixed properly. It happens.
Have the shaft pulled, prepped, and reinstalled. It's a good bet that it won't happen again. My ss is 117 mph, and I have yet to break the epoxy bond in a clubhead. I have seen someone twist the graphite in half trying to break the bond without a proper puller and heat source though.

Is it possible that the grip moved?
