Taper vs Parallel

What is the difference in a taper tip and a parallel tip steel shaft for irons?

I think it just has to do with how the tip is shaped. Some club heads are made to fit tapered and some are meant to fit parallels. I don't think there's a performance difference. It's like .370" versus .355" sized tips - just another factor to keep in mind when buying a new shaft.

Anyone, please correct me if I'm wrong.

Tapered is how it is shaped with starting at the tip small and very minutely growing in size as it works it way to the butt end. Like a cone.
Parrallel stays at .370 for the first say 7" of the shaft at the tip where the hosel is glued. Parrallel gives you more options to clubfitting at the tip.
