Iron shaft length

Recently reshafted my irons. I now have Rifle 5.5 (actually came out to 5.7) TF shafts in my Cally Fusion heads. Very happy with the results.

One area of the new shafts that I am not convinced of is the length. I am 5'9" with 33.5 WTF. My shafts are std factory length. I am getting the feel that the shafts are a bit too long.

Can I get some feedback on this based on the measurements given??? Thanks!

Also, if 1/2" is taken off the butt end, how will this effect playablity (stiffness, distance, ball height, etc..)

There is no standard for loft or shaft length. Pick a year and a model and look it up. Your best bet is to get fitted by a competent clubfitter and go from there. After you get your personal specs, you can custom build or order from any OEM. BTW, a competent clubfitter will nail down iron shaft flex and wood flex, plus give you a list of which brand of shafts will fit the bill. Hope this helps.

Fitting length is a function of your WTF AND your ball striking ability. You can assess your current set up yourself, if you do not wish to go to a clubfitter at this time. Purchase some impact labels from Dicks and head out to the range. Hit 4 or 5 7irons with an impact label off a mat. Repeat. Check the number of on center hits and if you are only getting 1 or 2 per label, there's a good chance that the irons are too long. Statically, I would start you off with a 36.5" 7i and go from there.

I got the reshaft done at PCS certified class A club fitter. I was showing 1/2" shorter but...he has a problem cutting down clubs that much. Says I should play them as normal and get used to it so as not to lose distance.

he should have cut them, being comfortable with your clubs is the number most important reason to having them fitted. this game is difficult enough and being confident with the tools you use can make a big impact on how well you play the game.

Cool

30: I have the True Temper shaft length chart right in front of me as I type this. According to TT, if your wtf measurement is 32-34, your driver should be 43" and your 5 iron 37.5". That means a half inch short for the irons is correct for you. As for any loss of distance, I doubt you would see much more any a few yards less carry. And if the shorter length means better contact with the ball, my guess is you could gain some distance with the more solid contact. And they wouldn't be enough stiffer that you would notice. I hope that answers your question.
